Tire Repair Edmonton

The integrity of your vehicle’s tires is hugely important to its safe operation and yourself. It’s literally where the rubber meets the road. Having good quality tires provides your vehicle with traction allowing your car to stop, corner and maneuver adequately. Snow and wet conditions will bring to light any doubts you might have about your vehicle’s tires.

6 Signs It’s Time To Replace Your Tires

Untitled-2

Tread Depth Is Shallow

Using a tread depth gauge, measure the depth between the ribs (raised portion of the tires). If the tread is less than 6/32 of an inch, your tires are in need of replacing. Since tire tread is measured in very small increments, it’s best not to use a regular ruler, or the “penny test.”

2

Cracks In Tire’s Sidewall

If fractures are appealing in the tire’s sidewall, it’s time for replacement. The rubber has deteriorated and is no longer fit for driving and should be replaced as soon as possible.

3

Tire Bulging and Blistering

If you notice that one, or more of your tires is bulging, or blistering, this probably means that it has incurred some sort of damage that has ruined the structure of the tire. You can often easily identify this while driving, as your ride will be much rougher than usual. Take time every now and then to inspect your tires.

4

Excessive Vibrations

If your daily commutes have been shakier than usual, you might have an issue with one or more of your tires. Since the tires are your vehicle’s point of contact with the road, if they are less than round, or structurally sound you will most likely be experiencing some jarring vibrations.

5

Exposed Tire Thread Wires

Your vehicle’s tires are made of rubber and a skeleton of metal wires which gives it structure and rigidity. If you notice these thread wires are exposed, your tires are in urgent need of replacement.

6

Your Tires Show Uneven Wear

Possibly due to some collision, or driving incident, your tire may display uneven wear and tear. While the majority of the tire may have adequate tread, a small portion may not which will decrease the safety of your vehicle.

What Happens If I Don't Change My Tires?

If you do not change your tires, your car will drive rougher, handle poorer until the tires completely deteriorate. At this point you will most likely have a few flat tires and be immobile. Running on less than adequate tires is a huge risk to the safety of yourself and everyone else on the road.

Frequently asked questions

Most frequent questions and answers about tire repairs

Should I Replace All 4 Tires?

While not technically necessary, it’s recommended that you replace all four (or at least a pair) of tires. This is because your new tire will be a slightly different diameter than the slightly worn tires which will cause alignment issues. This can be a hassle because if you have a blowout, or incur some sort of damage to just one tire, you might now be on the hook for four tires instead of just one.

Do I Need An Alignment After A Tire Change?

Again, not technically necessary, but a really good idea. An alignment will ensure that the tires have been installed properly and that all tires are spinning parallel to one another. This will have a major impact on the driveability of your vehicle.

Is It OK To Use Different Brand Tires?

Ideally, your vehicle should be sitting on top of four identical tires. Same make, same model, same wear. Of course a car can still run on mismatched tires, but it will perform poorer than one with a matching set and will need replacement much sooner. Driving on mismatched tires may also make your vehicle less safe on the road and is not advisable.
